Redbluff Country Lodge History
Redbluff Country Lodge is an elegant Colonial villa situated in a peaceful rural valley framed by native forest that the family have guarded for four generations. Perfect accommodation for larger groups located within the Warkworth/Matakana Coast region.
The land was purchased by Edward Morrison in 1873. The family arrived in New Zealand from the Isle of Skye in Scotland on the ship the Jane Gifford in the early 1840’s. One of five sons, Edward established a fruit orchard and nursery on the 180 acre property, which at the turn of the century was the largest orchard in the Southern Hemisphere. They called the property ‘Redbluff Orchard’ hence the name of the Lodge.
This historic Villa, built for Selwyn Morrison and his new wife Ruth in 1911, stands proudly waiting to welcome you to this idyllic escape, providing you with a comfortable sense of home.
Four generations later it is now owned by Edwards Great Grandson Ian and his wife Jyl and it was their home from 1971 when they moved into it with their two daughters Nicola and Paula to 2016 when they built their retirement home. In 2003 they renovated the house adding a second storey but keeping it in the old traditional style of the Villa.
Ian and Jyl are excited to have won the award for ‘Hospitality NZ Accommodation Host of the Year 2016’ for their Rotorua motel Sport of Kings – MORE
